Join us for an exciting opportunity to learn about our Communication, Film and Media Department at the University of New Haven! This is a workshop for teachers and school counselors to connect with our faculty, students, alumni, admissions, and tour our brand new facilities, including our Communication studios, editing room, and newsroom. 

Here is a schedule of the day's events:

9:00am - 11:00am FOX61 Student News Bootcamp
Location: 
Bergami Innovation Center, room 307 

FOX On the road to University of New Haven - FOX61 Anchor, Keith McGilvery, and the Student News team invite teachers and students to a boot camp where we’ll critique your student news stories. Bring your work and get honest feedback from television professionals on your video, writing, performance, and editing.

11:15am – 12:00pm Meet the Creators of CRIMEWAVES, an investigative podcast
Location: 
Bergami Innovation Center, room 307 

Crime Waves brings you interviews with people at the center of the biggest investigations in the world: prosecutors, criminals, professors, corruptors, journalists, undercover investigators, policemen, Olympic Gold Medalists and mobsters — all primary sources, all experts and all people with first-hand knowledge of the criminal world. Hosted by Declan Hill and Executive Produced by Bruce Barber, learn what it takes to produce stories with some of the world's top investigators.

1:15pm - 2:00 pm Keynote: "The Role of the Broadcaster in 2022"

The role of the broadcaster has changed drastically in the last 20 years. It’s not just the living room TV set anymore, it’s one of many “screens of convenience” shared on-air, on-line, mobile and beyond. Join John Hesslein and WNHU’s Bruce Barber, as they explore the importance of local news now and in the future. 

Keynote Speaker: John Hesslein

Former VP of Western Mass News, John Hesslein is a passionate, focused and successful multi-platform Television, Radio & Digital broadcaster. With a background in News/Entertainment content, sales, station social responsibility, equity and inclusion, John's proven track record of solid and consistent growth in ratings, revenue and creating new revenue streams has given him the reputation of someone who "stays ahead of the curve".


2:15 – 3:00pm “Breaking into the Industry” w/Kayra J. Clouden

A Career Coaching Discussion on the balance between being an artist & entrepreneur and how to get your business affairs together while remaining creative and inspired.

Kayra J. Clouden, also known as KayraJay, is an Artist from St. Croix, U.S Virgin Islands currently based in Atlanta, GA. Since graduating from the University of New Haven in 2018 with a B.A. in Digital Media and B.S. in T.V/Video Production, Kayra has curated a unique career between the entertainment realms of television and digital media. 

Kayra’s most notable contributions is her role as Associate Producer across Viacom CBS’ hit franchise show, Love and Hip-Hop, as well as VH1’s Family Reunion & VH1’s Couples Retreat, former Development Assistant at MTV/VH1, & former Associate Producer at Jezebel (G/O Media). Independently, Kayra serves as Creator and Executive Producer of the award-winning digital series ADULTIN’ on YouTube and has worked on a few other digital series as well.

When Kayra is not creating for television or digital platforms, you can find her pursuing a slew of other creative ventures including music, art, modeling, public speaking, acting, photography, DJ-ing, traveling around the world and more.
